Green methanol is one of the key technologies which will help decarbonise the transport sector. Its potential as a fuel is immense, but there are strong limitations which prevent its full use at the moment. At LAURELIN, we are trying to overcome these challenges to make the production of green methanol easier, cheaper and more efficient.
We have now celebrated our first year of research and the project has reached its cruising altitude. The tailor-made reactors for three promising technologies (microwave heating, magnetic induction and plasma induction) are being finalised and fine-tuned as we speak.
We will enter a new phase in our research, during which we will test more than 100 samples of new catalyst materials for permittivity and permeability. By testing them and comparing them with conventional heating, we hope to find the most appropriate catalysts and technology that can help us reach our objectives.
Adolfo Benedito Borrás, Head of the Materials Research Department, AIMPLAS
