The LAURELIN consortium meets in Brussels (BE) to discuss project developments at their 43MM project meeting

From 06 until 08 November 2024, Horizon 2020 LAURELIN Consortium partners met Europe’s Capital Brussels (Belgium) for the 43^rd month project meeting hosted by project partner Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT-FhG) in their EU Office near the European Quarter.

The meeting provided an ideal opportunity to discuss together the results achieved over the past six months. As the project now is in its final stage, LAURELIN members considered how to proceed with only a few months remaining.

LAURELIN is pleased to announce that significant preliminary results have been achieved over the past few months.

• The hydrogenation reactors have been built and optimized. All of them are now fully operational.
• New catalysts are being synthesized and tested in the innovative reactors, based on  the feedback from the analysis of the initial generation of catalysts.
• Issues related to the microwave reactor, including heating performance, assembly protocol and powder catalyst projection during pressurization, have been resolved. Promising results are arising from the initial testing.

Project representatives also presented the LAURELIN project at several events within the fields of chemistry, sustainable transport, and LCA to CCUS. These events increased the project’s outreach by promoting research and its main advantages. More information can be found here.

To conclude their week in Belgium, LAURELIN project members participated in the 2^nd EU-Japan Research Cluster event organized by sister-project 4AirCRAFT. On the agenda were:

• A presentation by our project coordinator Luis Iranzo Martínez on the past developments under our LAURELIN project
• 3 round table discussions on new production methods of synthetic fuels such as #GreenMethanol with our project members Adolfo Benedito Borrás, Raf Roelant, Pascual Oña Burgos, Rudolf Emmerich, Raquel Simancas & Teruoki Tago
• A networking session with representatives from sister projects 4AirCRAFT & ORACLE, the European Commission – Peter Petrov (CINEA), Thomas Schleker (DG RTD) & the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) representatives – including Prof. Wataru Ueda.
