LAURELIN’s research presented at the SDEWES September 2024 Conference in Rome
From 8 to 12 September 2024, in Rome (Italy), the 19th conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES) was held bringing together 700 scientists, researchers and experts in the field of sustainable development. Piya Gosalvitr from our LAURELIN project partner University of Manchester presented our EU-Japan funded project during this multiday conference.
This conference specifically highlighted the development of technologies aimed at reducing environmental impacts and promoting sustainable resource use.
This event allowed our project partner Piya to present his research and showcase how it is aligned well within the conference’s goals by addressing a key challenge in sustainability: reducing reliance on fossil-derived feedstocks while mitigating climate change through the development of CO2 utilisation technologies.
By using life cycle approach as an early design tool, my research guides the development of a catalytic non-thermal plasma reactor for methanol production via CO2 hydrogenation. The presentation led to positive discussions on how to optimize the environmental impact of green methanol production at the early stage and the benefits of using renewable electricity for operating the reactor.
