From 7 until 11 April 2025, in Mexico City (Mexico), the “International conference on Life Cycle Assessment in Latin America” was held at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (UNAM). Piya Gosalvitr from our LAURELIN project partner University of Manchester presented our EU-Japan funded project during this multiday conference.
About the Conference
CILCA, the International Conference on Life Cycle Assessment in Latin America, is the leading event in the region focused on Life Cycle thinking. It brings together businesses, policymakers, researchers, and civil society to exchange knowledge, perspectives, and challenges related to sustainable development, circular economy, carbon and water footprints, as well as responsible production and consumption — all grounded in the scientifically rigorous approach of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The event consisted of both plenary and keynote lectures, oral presentations as well as poster presentations.
About Piya Gosalvitr’s presentation
In Piya’s presentation, he shared key findings from the Laurelin project, where LCA is used during the early design stages to support the sustainable development of carbon capture sorbents and CO₂ utilization systems. He emphasized the critical role of integrating renewable energy sources into CO₂ utilization technologies to significantly improve their environmental performance.
He also presented results from his coffee-related research, where LCA was employed to identify the most sustainable type of coffee. The talk included practical strategies to enhance sustainability from both consumer and producer perspectives. His presentation attracted an audience of around 60 participants interested in his research and the Laurelin project.
We thank our project partner Piya from the University of Manchester very much for presenting the LAURELIN project across the North Atlantic Sea!
