Tokyo, 24 November 2023
From 20 until 24 November 2023, Horizon 2020 LAURELIN Consortium partners met in Tokyo (Japan) for their bi-annual internal meeting, the first EU-Japan research Cluster event and the 5th International Symposium on Porous Materials (ISPM).
On 20 and 21 November 2023, the Tokyo Institute of Technology & The University of Tokyo welcomed the LAURELIN Consortium partners for the internal meeting marking the 30th month of the project. Each partner presented their achieved results during the past 6 months and the team reflected on the project’s progress as it is gearing towards its final phase.
With less than 18 months to go, all the reactors are operational, new catalysts have been synthesized and the first methanol results suggest a hopeful evolution in the coming months with respect to conversion, selectivity and yield figures. As part of the project activities, advanced characterization of the catalysts and of the conversions obtained are being developed and a process design is helping to optimize the results. In parallel, LCA analyses are being developed to evaluate the suitability of methanol as an e-fuel compared to conventional fuels.
The project Consortium has published 2 scientific peer-reviewed articles in the past period since the last physical gathering in Manchester (May 2023).
On 22 November 2023, LAURELIN organised the first EU-Japan research cluster event gathering 3 research co-funded projects in the field of catalysts. Together with other EU-JAPAN funded projects ORACLE and 4AirCRAFT, LAURELIN organised the 1st EU-Japan research cluster event on “new e-fuel production methods for sustainable transport” on 22 November at the Sanjo Conference Hall of the University of Tokyo.

To end their week in Tokyo, LAURELIN Consortium partners attended the “5th International Symposium on Porous Materials 2023” on 23 and 24 November 2023. The symposium was intended to provide a forum for scientists and more especially students & young researchers to discuss recent developments in research on & applications of porous materials. Besides this, the Symposium aimed at strengthening the relationship among participants, while building a next generation scientific network in this field. The event was organized by the Tokyo Institute of Technology together with support of the LAURELIN project. Many project members were key speakers, providing lectures and oral presentations about their work.
The next consortium meeting will be taking place in May 2024 in Oxford (United Kingdom).
